This piece is all about contrast. The colors of orange contrasting blue, as the silky waters slip onto the beach between the sun-baked rocks. To further accentuate this difference, I used a palette knife to thickly lay on the paint for the cliffs, building up layers, just as time built up the actual stratum of earth. Then using delicate brush strokes, I gently painted the gliding water, shimmering in the evening sun. Wet sand reflected the rocks and the ocean captured all the colors of sunset. Tide was rising, swirling ever farther up the beach and the intense hues imbedded the moment in my mind.
